WHERE TO STAY ON TENERIFE

Where exactly to stay in Tenerife? Let's say we have decided, but in the end,

we won't be sleeping on the street. Of course, it's possible since it's not cold here at night,

but some minimal comfort wouldn't hurt. There are four main options:

apartments, hotels, your own mobile home, and camping. Which option to choose is up to you.

HOTELS AND APARTMENTS

The easiest and most reliable accommodation option in Tenerife is a hotel. And which is the best hotel aggregator? Right, Booking.com. The search is convenient and the prices are usually the lowest.

An alternative to Booking.com for apartment rentals is Airbnb, a company that connects apartment owners with guests. Airbnb is an online marketplace that offers a wide variety of accommodation options.

Some companies manage apartments in Tenerife, and staying with them can be cheaper since there is no aggregator commission. SIR.RENT is the most striking example of such a company

There are other services such as Agoda, Expedia and Hotels.com, but booking.com - is the undisputed leader among all online booking systems.

What should you pay attention to when looking for accommodation on booking.com? Of course, the filters. With their help, you can choose the most optimal accommodation option for yourself. However, if you set too many filters for housing requirements, there is a risk that there will be no suitable options. In this case, choose the golden mean.

Which filters should you pay attention to first? First, the price, followed by the rating based on users' ratings. On booking.com, for example, a ten-point system is used, and good options typically have a rating above "8". Third, the location of the hotel. There is always an opportunity to view the accommodation option directly on the map. These three criteria are universal, but then look at your personal requests.

Apartments are a great option for independent travelers. As a rule, this is a separate apartment in the Spanish Comunidad de Propietarios, which includes the owners of apartment buildings. In Spain, many tourists buy apartments and then rent them out. Often apartments are even cheaper than hotels, which means that holidays on the island become more affordable and almost homely. An important difference between apartments and hotels is the presence of their own kitchen. For many, this is a very important factor.

Apartments can be not only in the form of an apartment on the territory of one of the Comunidad de Propietarios, but also in the form of a whole complex of hotel-type apartments. With cleaning, catering, reception and various entertainment on site. And there are also quite a lot of such complexes.

A recognized leader in the field of short-term rental of private housing, of course, airbnb. You negotiate directly with the homeowners, and airbnb acts as an intermediary and guarantor of your accommodation. The search for apartments is similar to the search for hotels on booking.com. In general, it is often cheaper than hotels.

Apartments are not just on airbnb. Here's a little bonus for you: there are local companies in Tenerife that operate in this market and manage dozens of different apartments. As a rule, their accommodations are cheaper than anywhere else because the price of the apartments does not include the commission of aggregators.

You can search for such companies on the internet by direct requests. For example, the website of the company SIR.RENT manages over a hundred properties on the island and is the leader in the field of short-term rentals in the south of Tenerife. On the SIR.RENT website, you can find a convenient location for accommodation, view photos and equipment of the apartments, and directly book the selected property. Since such companies always have a high workload, it is worth booking apartments in advance.

Renting housing from local companies provides the same benefits as renting through global aggregators: equipped apartments in which you are your own master. In general, if you prefer freedom, then rent an apartment. If you want an "all-inclusive" experience, then choose a hotel. It's a matter of taste.

MOTORHOME

We know a lot of people who can't live without their "house on wheels". Well, no problem. You are unlikely to be allowed to bring it on a plane, but you can take it on the ferry (see information about ferries in the section "How to get there"). Are there specially equipped places on the island for motorhomes? Let's just say that Tenerife is not a place where dozens of motorhomes arrive every day (there are simply no long distances here), but you can always find equipped parking lots. Moreover, these parking lots are scattered all over the island, so you can move between them and explore all of Tenerife. Check out the list we have prepared and choose a parking place that suits your needs.

To stay in the selected campsite, you must obtain a permit from the Tenerife Department of the Environment and the municipality in which the campsite is located. The deadline for reviewing the application and obtaining a permit is from 1 to 7 days.

TENT AND STARRY SKY

The uniqueness of Tenerife lies in its mild climate throughout the year, making spending the night in a tent a perfectly normal choice and, for many, the most desirable one. The romance of camping is still alive and well, and it's also a great way to save on accommodation. However, it's best to set up camp in designated campsites as there are plenty of them on the island. If you pitch your tent in a prohibited area, you risk facing a significant fine since Spain takes such matters seriously. If you're not camping, be cautious about where you choose to spend the night. Campsites in Tenerife are usually equipped with everything you need, from toilets to electricity and internet, so you can experience nature with almost all the comforts (see the map for locations).

To stay in the selected campsite, you must obtain a permit from the Tenerife Department of the Environment and the municipality in which the campsite is located. The deadline for reviewing the application and obtaining a permit is from 1 to 7 days.
