ZOOS

If there is nature, then there are those who inhabit it.

There are several interesting places on the island where you can get acquainted

with those who crawl, run and fly, namely with representatives of the animal world.

LORO PARQUE

We will start with the main zoo on the island - Loro Parque. It is located in the northern resort of Puerto de la Cruz.

Initially, the zoo was created as a place for parrots to live ("loro" in Spanish means parrot). Over time, other animals were added to the parrots, and now Loro Parque is home to the largest collection of parrots in the world, as well as penguins from the most authentic Antarctica, a large shark-filled aquarium, and various shows featuring parrots, killer whales, dolphins, and sea lions. All entertainment shows are included in the ticket price.

In addition to parrots, the zoo is home to many other bird species, and many of the animals born in the park are released into the wild to support their populations. So Loro Parque not only entertains visitors, but also works to restore nature on our planet.

It will take at least one day to see everything. With tigers, gorillas, jaguars, pandas, crocodiles, turtles, and even a few sloths, there's a lot to see in this massive park.

The total area of the park is 135,000 square meters, and at the entrance you will find a free booklet with a map of the park and a schedule of various events.

Open: 8:30 – 18:45

JUNGLE PARK

Could there be anything more interesting than Loro Parque? Until recently, the answer could have been yes. Jungle Park was in no way inferior to its competitor and gave visitors a real sense of being close to the wild.

Over time, Jungle Park has lost its position and is now inferior to Loro Parque. However, it's still worth the time and money spent on a ticket. Jungle Park can be described as a genuine man-made jungle.

Geographically, Jungle Park is located in the south of the island, which is convenient for visitors to the popular resorts of the "Big Three." Getting there is easy. The park is known for entertainment shows with birds, including majestic eagles, but also has many other species of animals, such as lions, tigers, leopards, monkeys, crocodiles, and hippos. The animals live in conditions that mimic their natural habitats as closely as possible. In addition to observing the animals, visitors can also be active by climbing rope bridges between trees or going down a special 800-meter-long chute. Jungle Park is a must-visit destination for all nature and animal lovers.

Open: 10:00 – 17:30

MONKEY PARK

In the south of the island, there is another zoo that, although smaller than Loro Parque and Jungle Park, has at least one advantage over its more successful competitors. In Monkey Park, visitors are allowed to have direct contact with animals, including lemurs. According to the rules of the zoo, visitors can even feed these cute animals, and as a rule, they don't mind. Who would be against food?

However, there are a couple of tips for those who want to be honored with such an honor. 1) Come to Monkey Park either right after its opening or before closing when the animals are more active and alert, as an overfed lemur can be a lazy lemur. 2) Avoid visiting in bad weather, as the lemurs may be less active. 3) It's better to buy the appropriate food on the spot.

Monkey Park is not just about lemurs. Other animals worth checking out include monkeys, iguanas, guinea pigs, turtles, and of course, parrots. Despite being smaller in scale compared to Loro Parque and Jungle Park, the opportunity for up-close and personal contact with the animals can be a unique and memorable experience, particularly for children. The admission price is also more affordable.

Open: 9:30 – 16:00
