OCEAN

We are on an island, which means we are surrounded by the boundless waters of the Atlantic.

It's time to move to the ocean, where its numerous inhabitants,

fishing and diving are waiting for us.

PORTS

Just as a theater begins with a hanger, so any walk into the ocean begins with the port, from the very place where you get on this or that boat. Those who are vacationing in the north of Tenerife (Puerto de La Cruz, La Orotava, etc.) are a little unlucky in this regard, since the main marinas (ports) are located in the south. Let's go through them so that you know where to find them and where to turn.

PUERTO LOS
CRISTIANOS

As you might have guessed by the name, this port is located in one of the southern resorts of the island - Los Cristianos.

PUERTO
COLON

It is actually located on the border of Costa Adeje and Playa de las Américas, next to the Puerto Colón shopping center of the same name, where you can buy a variety of excursions.

PUERTO DEPORTIVO
LOS GIGANTES

The port in the tourist area on the west coast of the island may not be as large as its southern counterparts, but it still serves its main purpose of providing options for maritime leisure.

MARINA
SAN MIGUEL

A relatively new, small port that provides all the most basic services for leisure at sea: from fishing to diving.

MARINA
DEL SUR

The smallest port in the south is primarily interesting for diving, but there are also several options for boat trips. Overall, it is a small and cozy place for a seaside vacation.

FISHING

If you enjoy fishing, then including it in your plans while in Tenerife is a must. And if you're indifferent to fishing, why not break stereotypes and give it a try? It's hard to find a more convenient place.

There are two ways to fish on the island: from a watercraft or directly from the shore. In the latter case, you won't need to make any special preparations, aside from bringing your own fishing rod, float, hook, and bait. By the way, there's a great place where you can buy everything you need for fishing at a reasonable price.

Fishing directly from the rocks of the breakwaters on the beaches is possible, but this option is only for the lazy and brave, as you still need a license to fish and it is not really appropriate to catch fish right on the beach. It makes more sense to venture out of the tourist zones and fish from the rocks on the wild coast, for example, just west of the town of La Caleta.

There are many types of fish around the island, and they can be caught all year round. However, it's important to pay close attention to what you catch, as there are some highly poisonous fish in the area. Take note of the appearance of any fish you catch, and it's a good idea to research the types of fish found around the island before you go fishing.

There are also secrets and rules of conduct in the "sea battle," but we will leave those aside. The only thing you need to understand is that there are no particularly large fish near the shore. Fish weighing 500-700 grams are considered very good. If you want to catch a bigger fish, you'll have to venture out into the ocean. You can choose to participate in a group fishing trip or charter a separate vessel.

BOAT TRIPS

Agree that visiting Tenerife and ignoring boat trips seems more than strange. Of course, you can make do with the beach and swimming, but why not explore the depths of the ocean?

What can you expect during a boat trip? At the very least, you can enjoy swimming in the open ocean (which is truly exciting) and a small snack on board the ship. And, of course, you'll get to see and learn about the marine flora and fauna, including dolphins and even whales. Photos taken during such a trip will become a vivid memory for a lifetime, and you'll be able to escape from the tourist bustle and enjoy the natural beauty of the island.

Walks can be varying in time and duration. Half-day trips are a great option for those who want to experience Tenerife's marine life and stunning landscapes without spending the whole day. Day trips are ideal for those who want a more immersive experience and have more time to enjoy the sights and sounds of the island. Sunset cruises are a romantic way to end the day with a stunning view of the sun setting over the sea.

Watercraft vary in size (larger vessels tend to have less pitching) and amenities. Some boat trips also offer snorkeling and diving equipment so you can explore the underwater world. You can arrange an individual trip or even rent a yacht for a day or a week. Tickets can be purchased at the ports or at the offices of travel agencies. In general, let's hoist the sails and head out to sea!

DIVING

Speaking of ocean holidays, it is impossible to ignore diving, especially since Tenerife offers a wide selection for both beginners and experienced divers.

Experienced divers may experience a little disappointment since the Tenerife coast is not like the Red Sea with its colorful corals and abundance of fish. Instead, the underwater landscape consists of harsh volcanic terrain. However, many divers are drawn to the unique specificity of the ocean, as the diving experience begins right at the shore.

The highlight of diving in Tenerife is the chance to explore grottos and caves, as well as the opportunity to feed turtles, moray eels, and other underwater wildlife up close. Divers can also explore sunken ships, including the remains of a Spanish galleon, which have turned into artificial reefs and are home to a variety of marine life.

The whole process of going out to sea, diving, and returning typically takes about two hours. The average depth for diving is from 20 to 30 meters, but there are separate options for professionals. There is no shortage of diving centers on the island, and you can always find an option that suits you. Happy diving!
